Through free concerts, exhibitions, gallery tours, art making workshops, walking tours, film screenings, and Spoken Word recitals, SUPER SABADO! showcases traditions, cultural expressions, and the latest in Latino art.

Viva Futurism!

As part of Performa '09, and inspired by Futurism and Latin American art of the early 20th century, multimedia artists performed themes of revolution and the modern metropolis. Nicky Enright accompanied video with his live  DJ performance in collaboration with poets Edwin Torres, Mariposa, and Noël Jones, musicians Ernesto Gomez, and Colin Rishi Connor, and Bared Soles Dance Company.

Día de Los Muertos

Our Day of the Dead celebration on Saturday, October 31 was a huge success!  What a wonderful day ... We had over 2,000 attendees, and more than 1,200 visiting our gallery exhibitions.  All our programs were highly attended ... including the evening performances when it was pouring rain outside and Halloween was on its peak downtown!

Open House: MEET AND GREET

Artist Educators were invited to stroll through El Museo's newly renovated facilities, including two inaugural exhibitions: VOCES Y VISIONES: Four decades through El Museo del Barrio's Permanent Collection, and NEXUS NEW YORK: Latin/American Artists in the Modern Metropolisd. This Meet & Greet allowed our Education Staff to get to know each other and the cultural resources that El Museo offers through exciting Public Programs.

Young International Circle Benefit

El Museo's exclusive Young International Circle benefit hosted 600 guests at its beautifully renovated facilities. The event celebrated the age-old tradition of Día de los Muertos with a flavor of Carnaval, including altars, Samba dance performances, and even a silent auction!

Opening Day Celebration

El Museo del Barrio turned forty and reopened its doors on Saturday, October 17, 2009. The all-day celebration welcomed over 4,500 visitors, and more than 150 of them became new members! The fun-packed day of free programs included gallery tours, performances, concerts, book readings, film screenings, and educational programs for children and adults.
