El Museo del Barrio

Classroom Connections
Classroom Connections are in-depth, long-term multi-session programs designed to link El Museo's cultural resources with Social Studies, English, Science, and Art in all grade levels (K-12). With the support of school and El Museo administrators, each partnership consists of classroom teachers and artist educators who design and implement a program that enables students to develop and apply visual literacy, critical thinking, and communication skills. Throughout the program, artist educators and museum staff work closely with classroom teachers to develop ways of integrating artistic practices into classroom curricula that will help students learn how to apply their skills. The program includes museum visits, classroom visits by the artist educator, art-making activities, and a final presentation at El Museo for Super Sábado! at the end of the school year.

El Museo in the Classroom: Around the Block from El Museo
Around the Block from El Museo (ATB) is an innovative program that seeks to deepen the understanding between El Museo and its surrounding neighborhood. El Museo's Artist Educators will work with students to explore the Museum's Permanent Collection and exhibitions, and the diverse history and culture of El Barrio and its people. Students will learn and discuss the ways in which the neighborhood has been shaped by both the cultural and social practices of its residents as well as of the Museum. ATB art making activities will deepen learning about the relationship between El Museo and El Barrio to encourage critical reflection upon the role each student and their own cultural traditions and practices relate in their own neighborhood.
