Once a month, El Museo del Barrio opens its doors to everyone interested in exploring the vibrancy and diversity of Latino Culture. Through free concerts, exhibitions, gallery tours, art making workshops, walking tours, film screenings, and spoken word recitals, SUPER SABADO! showcases traditions, cultural expressions, and the latest in Latino art.  Save the date for our upcoming Super Sábados!

Día de los Muertos Celebration
Get your calaveras out of the closet and join us for a super-special Super Sábado, as we celebrate with a free fun-filled day of activities Mexico’s beloved 3,000 year-old tradition that commemorates friends and relatives who have passed away.

Procession
CALAVERAS CALLEJERAS…
11:00am–12:00pm, Dana Center in Central Park
Join us as we kickoff the festivities with a colorful procession through Central Park, accompanied by our musical guests Grupo Cetiliztli and Adela & Lupita. The procession begins at Dana Discovery Center inside Central Park at 110th Street, and ends at EI Museo's doorstep.

Nueva York, an unprecedented exhibition presented by the New-York Historical Society and El Museo del Barrio, reveals the vital role that Latinos and Spanish-speaking countries have played over three centuries in making New York the most culturally vibrant city in the world.

VOCES Y VISIONES: Four Decades through El Museo del Barrio’s Permanent Collection

The exhibition in the Carmen Ana Unanue Galleries features milestones in the history of El Museo through artwork, documentation and memorabilia from our Permanent Collection and archives. This is your last chance to see this special collection selection honoring El Museo’s 40th anniversary.

Art Making Workshop
RETABLO MAKING & CalaVera Mobiles

Create your own unique retablo inspired by Latin American folk art tradition, along with a fun calavera mobile.  .

Food Tasting

Give your taste buds a new treat at our Pan de Muerto and champurrado tasting for only $1. First come, first served.

Storytelling
COLORIN COLORADO… Coatlicue Theatre Company

Bring the family to this theatrical story time featuring a funny sketch about life and death.

GALLERY TOURS

Artist Educators lead visitors through our galleries in both English and Spanish. Space is limited, and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Concert
A MOVER EL ESQUELETO… con Adela & Lupita y Radio Jarocho
4:00pm-5:30pm, El Teatro
This Mariachi duo, Adela & Lupita, bring their guitarras, spectacular voices, incomparable sentiment, and mucho swing to the stage, followed by Radio Jarocho, who will share their fandango skills and some lively Jarocho tunes.

Spoken Word
SPEAK UP! SPEAK OUT!
6:30–8:30pm, El Café
Get ready for a fantastic, provocative blend of spoken word seasoned with Latino flavor.  Featuring Sheila Maldonado, Jesus "Papoleto" Melendez, Myrna Nieves, and Tato Laviera.
